Ms. Samudini Sandalika
Dining etiquette means knowing how to behave politely at the table, especially in formal settings. Good table manners help create a positive impression and show respect to others.
Napkin Rules
🔸 Place your napkin on your lap as soon as you sit.
🔸 Wait for the host to do it first if you're unsure.
🔸 Fold it neatly, don't crumple or use it as a bib.
🔸 Use different parts of the napkin to keep it clean.
Bread Etiquette
🔸 Break off and eat one piece of bread at a time.
🔸 Take a small amount of butter and place it on your plate.
🔸 Don't dip your knife directly into the shared butter.
Salt & Pepper
🔸 Always pass salt and pepper together, even if only one is asked for.
🔸 They are considered a pair in dining etiquette.
Utensil Basics
🔸 Hold utensils like a pencil for better control.
🔸 Used for cutting with precision.
🔸 Know which utensils to use for each course.
🔸 Rest utensils properly on the plate when not using them.
First Impressions & Social Behavior
🔸 Smile genuinely, not forced.
🔸 Greet people warmly.
🔸 Make good eye contact, don't stare.
🔸 Be a good listener and stay positive.
🔸 Dress properly and stay well groomed.
What i learnt 🎯
✅ How to use and rest utensils properly
✅ How to behave in formal dining setups
✅ Napkin and bread rules
✅ Proper ways to pass and use items like salt and butter
✅ Social etiquette like smiling, eye contact, and greeting people
What was interesting 💡
The napkin rule stood out to me. I didn't know folding it neatly and waiting for the host mattered that much. Also, the salt and pepper being a pair was new. These small things actually make a big difference.
